LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas Metropolitan police will provide more details Wednesday morning about two stabbing deaths that happened roughly a week apart near the university district.
On Wednesday, Sept. 14, a woman was sleeping outside of a business in the 1400 block of University Ave. near Maryland Parkway and Flamingo Road when a man walked up to her and stabbed her, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Almost a week later on Tuesday, Sept. 20, a woman who appeared to be experiencing homelessness was found stabbed to death on a sidewalk in the same area near Maryland Parkway and Katie Avenue. Though she was found on Tuesday, police said they didn’t know when she was killed.
That same Tuesday, University Police Services for UNLV issued a safety notification because the two homicides were so close to the campus.
“While the incidents occurred near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas main campus, there is no known connection or threat to campus,” the notification read. “This safety notification is being provided out of an abundance of caution and awareness for the campus community.”
People were urged to call 911 or University Police Services at 702-895-3668 if they see something suspicious. Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to contact LVMPD at 702-828-3521. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
