LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 19-year-old man was found dead in a Las Vegas apartment Friday morning leading to a homicide investigation, according to a police briefing.

Las Vegas police are investigating a homicide that occurred Friday morning at an apartment complex at the 5000 block of East Craig Road, near Nellis Boulevard.

At around 4:42 a.m., Metro officers responded to several calls about gunshots in the apartment complex, according to Homicide Lieutenant Jason Johansson of the LVMPD.

Arriving officers found shell casings near the east side of the complex. When they spoke with residents of the complex, none of them said they saw anything, but they did hear the shooting.

Later, at around 7 a.m., a welfare check was done at an apartment near the initial scene. When police entered the apartment with the help of the apartment’s management, they found the body of a 19-year-old male.

He was pronounced dead on the scene by medical personnel.

At this time, it appears that an altercation occurred outside of the apartment where the shell casings were found, Lt. Johansson told media in the briefing. The victim then went to the apartment where he was later found.

This is an ongoing investigation by the LVMPD Homicide Section.
