LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) – Yes: the south side of Tropicana over I-15 is coming down next month. But BEFORE all that, there are two other pretty big deals in the area.
First: that half-freeway interchange at Harmon that we’ve mentioned many times opens Friday! Because it’s only a half-interchange, here’s what you can and can’t do:
You can get onto the south 15 from Harmon
You cannot get to the north 15 from Harmon.
You can get up to Harmon from the northbound 15
You cannot get to Harmon from the south 15
Justin Hopkins from the Nevada Dept of Transportation has a couple of tips:
“The exit to Harmon from northbound I-15 is a left-hand exit. So, if you are on northbound I-15, you have to get over to the left-hand lane. If you’re on Harmon and you’re getting onto southbound I-15, you need to realize that you’re going to be entering the freeway in the far left lane.”
Now to Tropicana. Starting this Saturday (January 27th) at 1am, the road will be closed in both directions between Dean Martin and New York New York to get ready for the Superbowl.
On Thursday, February 1st at 9am, Tropicana will re-open with three lanes in each direction over I-15. Because the north side and the south side of the road are now at different heights, there will be no left turns from either direction.
So the Diverging Diamond is taking a well-deserved vacation, but it will be back later.
The 3 lanes in each direction Superbowl configuration will last until the end of Valentines day. That’s when NDOT will take a few days to deconstruct the Superbowl configuration. That’s when Dropicana 2.0 gets serious.
Buckle up, drive carefully – and, please put down that phone! When you write in to join the “Driving You Crazy” conversation, photos and video obviously help tell your story, but not taken while you’re driving!
