LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man is accused of stabbing three people in the neck, killing one, and threatening another with a knife in the central Las Vegas valley, according to an arrest report.
Cornelius Williams, 33, faces charges of open murder, two counts of attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon, records showed.
On Feb. 3, around 12:45 a.m., Metro police received a 911 call from a woman who said that her boyfriend was stabbed in the neck. When officers arrived at an apartment in the 440 block of Twain Avenue, they found the victim, identified as Leary Adams, suffering from a stab wound, police said.
Adams was pronounced dead at the scene.
Adams’ girlfriend told police that they were inside the apartment when Adams decided he wanted to go to a nearby 7-Eleven for a snack. Sometime later, Adams “burst through the bedroom door holding his neck,” bleeding and saying someone stabbed him, the report said.
Detectives later discovered that around 12:10 a.m., about 36 minutes before Adams’ girlfriend called 911, they received a report that a man had been threatened with a knife in the parking lot of his apartment complex, in the same block as the Adams’ apartment, according to police.
The victim told police that he had just arrived home and pulled into his parking spot when he was exiting his car and heard what he described as “metal being pulled out,” the report said.
The victim looked up and saw a man holding a six to 10-inch knife. The victim yelled and the man backed away and placed the knife back in a sheath in his jacket pocket, police said.
During the investigation, detectives learned of a third stabbing reported around 1:06 p.m., about 21 minutes after Adams’ girlfriend called 911, the report said.
A woman reported that her husband had been stabbed in the neck by an unknown man at their apartment complex in the 3800 block of Cambridge Street, a little less than one mile from Adams’ apartment, according to police.
The man was taken to a local hospital where he told police that he was in a public area in his apartment complex watching a video on his phone when a man walked up to him and asked for a cigarette. The victim told him that he didn’t have any more and went back to watching the video, police said.
Suddenly, the victim was grabbed from behind and cut on the right side of his neck. He turned around and saw the same man who asked for a cigarette. The man then walked away and jumped over the wall into another apartment complex, according to the report.
Detectives then learned about a fourth stabbing with similar details that had been reported in the same area about two weeks earlier on Jan. 21 around 2 a.m.
Police said a woman was in the parking lot of Vegas Market in the 770 block of Twain Avenue, about 0.4 miles away from Adams’ apartment, when a man came behind her and cut her, the report said.
Detectives identified Williams as the suspect and learned that on Feb. 3 around 5 a.m., Sunrise Hospital trespassed him from the property, police said.
Williams was later arrested in Henderson and taken to the Clark County Detention Center.
