LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The NFL has a touchdown-worthy collaboration with local Las Vegas designers.
“Origins: An NFL Collection” debuted Thursday in the downtown Las Vegas arts district. For the third year, the initiative is an effort for the NFL to connect with its host cities by collaborating with local designers.
The shopping experience is rooted in Las Vegas culture and offers the opportunity for local merchants to create and sell Super Bowl-themed merchandise with their hometown flare.
This year saw limited edition clothes and accessories from Urban Necessities, Feature, and Love, Hand + Heart.
Kim Johnson, Feature‘s creative director, described their journey from a small, sneaker store in 2010 to working with the NFL.
“My idea of the Origins Project is a way for independents like us to actually bring exciting collaborative products to the marketplace for the true consumers of the community,” Johnson said. “We are a true authenticator for the community, serving them interesting and a large bandwidth of designers and footwear, and we’re able to kind of morphe the NFL into that point.”
Their pop-up featured t-shirts, jackets, and hoodies.
Walanya Vongsvirates’s Love, Hand + Heart is for the free-spirited.
“There is such a special spirit of Las Vegas, and I really try to infuse my art with that spirit,” Vongsvirates said. “I think my earrings and the keychains will just kind of help emphasize that fun feeling. I really hope that when people wear this, they feel empowered, and they feel that joy too.”
Her polymer clay art is inspired by Las Vegas’s city skyline and state desert landscape.
The pop-up shop only lasted Thursday. However, the styles can be found online at the NFL Shop starting Friday.
